barbershop

LeAndra's barbershop is now open for business.

However, please do not ask for my license. And just remember....

You get what you pay for.

Duff needed a haircut. And as I usually do, I offered up my haircutting services. The only difference is, he's the first fool to accept them!

Here's the before. Well, almost before.

Duff has this amazing way of looking cocky no matter WHAT he's doing. We're working on that. And me? I feel like I look like a grade school teacher I had. I'm all slumped over and have no waist. Wranglers, man!

So the good thing about Duff being the guinea pig, is that, if I goofed, we could just shave it.

But it seems like everything is going alright.

Here's the bird's eye view...just in case you happen to be taller than him, which I am most definitely not.

And as usual....
the goats were there to help.

Or maybe Rudy just wanted some food.

And don't forget about Selene!!!

As for the final product...
I don't think it turned out too badly! (Notice the cocky look again? 18 year olds, I swear.)

Ha! Try to look cocky now, Duff!

But you want to know the best part?

Dizzy wanted his done next!

And Jackson, the goat, helped, of course.

And it turned out ok, too.

So then....

Nate wanted his done before his family got here.

Looks like the front could use a little work, but he did just take his hat off for the picture.

And now....Urska wants hers done.

But I'm afraid this face might become permanent if I goof on her hair and then buzz it to cover up my goof.

roo

So, this was something I meant to start this summer, but I failed. Miserably.

I wanted to do Meet 'n Greets with all the staff here, but, um, it didn't happen.

Now that Roo is leaving to go back to school, I guess I'd better get to it!

Roo has been our head housekeeper this summer and tries to keep our guests happy, even when they go through 3 towels a day and then complain they don't have fresh towels.

Sometimes, I think her job might be harder than ours.

She works in the kitchen a couple of days a week so that the cooks get a break, too.

And when she puts food away, she gets a little creative. (Piglet = Sausage)

Lars and Amy love her because she adds some great harmony to their show. She's actually going to school for Music Education.
She writes her own music, but we haven't heard too much of it lately. Hmmmm....we'll have to get on her for that before she leaves!

She's a little bit of a mountain goat. We'll be out on a trail ride and see someone scaling the side of a mountain. And, oh, it's just Roo. She's a runner who has actually continued to run here, which is more than I can say for Georgia, Cookie, or myself.

Notice how long her hair is here, compared to below? She donated it. Now that's something I can believe in!

Since she's leaving on Thursday, we all went out to dinner last night. Roo is the 3rd closest on the right.

There is just one thing I really, really don't like about her.
A picture is worth a thousand words. That's a Nebraska Cornhuskers flag for those of you who aren't from the Midwest and don't just know it by sight.

All in all, though, she's been a pretty sweet roommate and I'm going to miss her!

cheyenne frontier days

Roo, Georgia, and I went to the Cheyenne Frontier Days last Friday. As crazy as this is to imagine, after all these years of living out here, I have never been before.

They call it, "The Daddy of Them All". Although I'd actually been saying "Granddaddy," which I still think I like better.

Daddy or Granddaddy, I think it was probably THE BEST rodeo I have ever been to and I think I've been to a decent number of rodeos.

It had the usual stuff.

Broncs, bull riding, roping, barrels, steer wrestling, etc.

Then there was the fun stuff in between. Like the race to see which baby would run the fastest to get back to it's mama.

My favorite was the miniature horse and her baby.

The most interesting thing was the last event. I can't remember if I've seen this before or not, but it's called the Wild Horse Race.

These pictures aren't the best for focus, but if you look at them closely, you'll see a lot going on.

First, the pick-up men (the guys who help get riders off of bucking animals once they've ridden to the buzzer) bring out a wild horse by a lead rope.
They're the mounted guys in turquoise.

Then, there are teams of 3. And there was even a female team!

Two guys hold the horse while the third tries to saddle it.

If they successfully saddle it (notice the horse on the ground toward the left), the person gets on and tries to ride it all the way around the racetrack.

Of all the teams, only one guy made it. But I was taking video, so I didn't get a picture.

Changing subjects...here's some people watching.

Check out this guy!
He was super colorful in his green boots, yellow shirt, and candy striper vest!

And how cool is it to see all those cowboys line up like that? I like it and you can't change my mind.

Future cowboys are always the best....

And a good day at the rodeo ALWAYS ends with at least two of your buddies in the pokey.
